In which Sam Tom is posing sitting down

For the benefit of [livejournal.com profile] joysilence particularly and any 80's enthusiasts more generally, here is a very good synth-pop number from Flight of the Conchords, which I was pleased to see on the telly last night. Sadly I can't seem to embed it to LJ. Bret Mackenzie looks brilliant as a New Romantic.

Its funny lyrics and ridiculous-yet-good has cheered me up quite considerably today. Today has not been a good day in many ways, as I have had to deal with problems with the bathroom in my flat in Tottenham leaking into my downstairs neighbour's flat. I'm still in Devon so it's all had to be done over the phone.

The whole episode was very good, my favourite so far, and the fact that I saw it just after seeing La Roux top the UK single's charts on TMF meant I had a very satisfactory evening's viewing. I like her video for Bulletproof a lot, it's really good to see a scowling ginger androgyne in the top spot. And she really does scowl throughout the whole video.

Later on things picked up though, as I purchased a ceramic plated crimper from Boots Electrical Beauty (the only beauty) for only £14.99! It's great to own a crimper again. My last one was purchased from a charity shop in the 90's, when it was hard to get them new. It was metal and took half an hour to heat up, but was brutally efficient. This one is a bit more advanced.

I am coming back to London on Saturday and hope to see some mates at a gig in Camden. Work has started on the house next door that we used to live in, so I shall be glad to get away. By the sound of it I will have avoided the worst of the heatwave in London, as temperatures are forecast to return to normal at the weekend. I shall try and concentrate on the nice things of life like bands, hair and disco dancing, and keep mundane issues such as plumbing and work in perspective.

Posing a THREAT

Oh, I Googled for the clip on Youtube while I was on the phone to Duffy and made him watch it as well. I liked it a lot and was especially impressed by their mad fan Whatsername. In fact for some reason big-nosed people often seem to make the best New Romantics. I personally don't like La Roux very much though - I saw her do 'Bulletproof' on This Morning (or some program like it) the other day and found her delivery miserable without being theatrical. People like Marc Almond and Dave Gahan often used to smile even when they were singing miserable songs - she may be a fan of early DM but La RouSSE has clearly never seen the video to 'See You'. I just find her a bit bland generally. Still it's better than a poke in the eye with an... 'axe' isn't it.

Posing like a swan

Sam Tom he laffed out loud at the "Posing a THREAT!" bit. And yes the fangirl Mel was very good in it, resembling Cindy Ecstacy a bit I think.

I haven't seen La Roux perform live, but I did like her video. Maybe she is better suited to that medium. I like the song Bulletproof and think she has good hair. I like Little Boots more though, she has some great songs and has done a duet with Phil! Yes, that Phil!

Gosh I didn't know the Oakey was involved. Again, I find Little Boot's name and persona underwhelming but I do quite like some of her music. I had a dream about Phil Oakey last night but I can't remember what happened, except that it was in a branch of Abbey. I think they're the ones doing our mortgage.

Yes, they did a song called Symmetry together, it's quite good. Her best songs are Remedy and Mathematics though, I think. It's true she hasn't got a particularly exciting image. She should take some style tips off Phil.

For me, it's the "posing like a swan" bit that makes me crack up everytime. I love the Conchords an absurd amount! xx

Me too, I think I shall have to get the DVD of series 2 as there are a couple of episodes I've missed and everyone I've seen has been funny. I liked series 1 too, but at the time I never would have thought they would get so into synth-pop!

Oh yeah and I am going to bust out most, if not all, of those poses at the next Bedsitland.
