Oct. 15th, 2007 10:09 pmI had a nice weekend, except my 'weekend' was Thursday and Friday, while I spent the actual weekend at work subtitling golf and a 60s folk festival :s
On Thursday I went with Sarah and her friend Joseph to see Fascination, a new synth-pop duo who we enjoyed very much. Their frontman, Martin, was very charismatic and gave an animated performance with arch style, while the quietly dignified synth player produced some lovely soaring lead sounds. Sarah said she thought they were much better than the Modern/Matinee Club, and funnily enough, they did have a song called Tokyo Girl! I don't think it was inspired by Tokyo Girls though, as it sounded very different.
The club, Kill All Drummers, was curiously situated in a hotel basement, but was very pleasant, the venue having the feeling of a youth club for nice young people. It had neon lights, lots of sofas and no drunken people barging into you.
We spoke to Martin before he went on and he seemed very agreeable, and said he would come to the next State City Disco gig, which will be at Back II Nature at Notting Hill Arts Club. It's an electro nite run by an ex-member of Client, and must be OK cos it's named after a brilliant Fad Gadget song!
We had a gig at the Oh! Bar in Camden last Wednesday, and actually got paid for the first time! Not much, but still, it's nice to have some monetary value. We were on stage quite late but quite a few people gathered to watch us, one even getting his photo taken with Alex at the end.
I've been feeling very depressed and discouraged over the past weeks, despite all this activity, or maybe because of it. I sometimes think I would like to just retire, but I think I'd kick myself later if I didn't give the band a bit more of a go. I've decided to give my job/band/life a year and see what happens.
