And while we're at it, here is some more fluff, which I nicked from [livejournal.com profile] heartofdavid.

This kitten is, like, toadally, me, I don't know how they did it.

I've got broadband now! For a while, anyway. I've been having a lot of bother setting up a wireless network at home, but the nice man on the BT technical helpline said you can use two routers at once if you plug them into different phone sockets. We happen to have two in the house, so I'm connected by USB to one of them now. I haven't tried using two at the same time yet as I can't find the other router, but hopefully I can try that soon.

I'm enjoying being able to download songs very quickly and play games on Neopets, a nice site [livejournal.com profile] spam_robot77 introduced me to. I have a virtual pet walrus now. I can also upload her extremely poncy MySpace page in a matter of seconds, too, which is nice.

Today we bought some white chocolate digestives! They look very nice.

I'm afraid I didn't win the record player, but I'm not too bothered as the price went up rather high for what it was. The machine had no brand name indicated so I couldn't look for reviews of it on the web, and it was a bit risky, especially at the price they wanted. I will keep looking on eBay - there are quite a few such items there - or maybe just buy some separates from a shop, if I can find some that are compact enough and not too dear.

I was very surprised to be asked by an internet friend to do some modeling today. Stop sniggering at the back! It is for a catwalk display of wearable ceramic corsets for ladies and gentlemen, as part of Alternative London Fashion Week. Here is the website with some pictures of them.

I have never done any modeling in my life (except for hair modeling) and certainly never worn a corset! Fortunately they are not your standard Black Rose-style goth corsets, in fact there are some quite interesting designs and they are aimed at both sexes. I wouldn't have thought I was model material but it is meant to be 'alternative', I suppose. It sounds quite fun so I said yes, although I haven't found out if I can have the night off work yet. I do hope they say yes, or at least let me swap shifts. I have never thrown a sickie in my life and I hope not to start now!

Lyle fans will have noted that I was recently considering buying a record player with in-built speakers and amplifier, in order to enjoy my lovely vinyls here in London.

Well, I've found such a device on eBay and have put in a bid - it is a lot cheaper than the on-line shops and even the catalogues, yet it is brand new. It is quite compact and not too old-fashioned looking. Some of them are deliberately styled to look 40's or 50's, but I don't think that would fit in with the other technology in my bedroom. I don't expect the sound quality to be as good as my hi-fi separates back in Devon, but it wouldn't be practical to bring those here.

Tomorrow I will know if I have won. Wish me luck, because if I do win it, you will all be able to come and have a listen to the more obscure gems in my record collection, such as my Ronny EP and Data's brilliant nuclear disaster-themed flop single, Fallout. (When I've picked them up from Devon, that is.)

Today I had a day off work to go to collect my prescription. I still have to go all the way to Peckham to get it, which takes up to an hour. I ought to change surgery to somewhere in Islington, but I don't know a good one. I have had quite bad experiences with Acorn Surgery in Peckham and I don't want to go through the hassle of signing up to another one just to receive a bad service again.

Afterwards I had a nice lunch of baguette with Tyrol ham, which is a dry-cured ham smoked over juniper. Then I fell asleep for some hours.

I spent part of the evening with my synthesizer, refining some sounds for use in some songs I have written. I haven't spent much time with my friend electric recently but I am trying to devote more attention to it now. I find it satisfying to create new sounds and enjoy learning to use all the machine's different features. The arpeggiator is one of the more instantly gratifying ones as it allows you to produce a sequence of notes just by holding down one key. It has a built-in vocoder, too, although I spend most of my working day emitting robotic utterances, so I don't really need it ;)

My most recent eBay purchase has arrived at the Lyle family home in Exeter - a 7-inch single of If You Want Me To Stay by Ronny!

I am greatly looking forward to going back to Devon and holding it in my hot little paws. I had it sent there because that is where my vinyl player is currently residing. I miss my vinyl collection but sadly I don't think I have room for the turntable, amplifier and huge speakers here in Holloway.

Sometimes, in catalogues that come free with the Daily Mail and similiar organs, I see all-in-one record players that have built in amplifier and speakers. I don't expect the sound quality would be as good but it would be a satisfactory stop-gap. I've been pondering buying one for some time. Maybe I'll start buying screamingly right-wing middle-brow tabloids again ;)
