I'm afraid I didn't win the record player, but I'm not too bothered as the price went up rather high for what it was. The machine had no brand name indicated so I couldn't look for reviews of it on the web, and it was a bit risky, especially at the price they wanted. I will keep looking on eBay - there are quite a few such items there - or maybe just buy some separates from a shop, if I can find some that are compact enough and not too dear.

I was very surprised to be asked by an internet friend to do some modeling today. Stop sniggering at the back! It is for a catwalk display of wearable ceramic corsets for ladies and gentlemen, as part of Alternative London Fashion Week. Here is the website with some pictures of them.

I have never done any modeling in my life (except for hair modeling) and certainly never worn a corset! Fortunately they are not your standard Black Rose-style goth corsets, in fact there are some quite interesting designs and they are aimed at both sexes. I wouldn't have thought I was model material but it is meant to be 'alternative', I suppose. It sounds quite fun so I said yes, although I haven't found out if I can have the night off work yet. I do hope they say yes, or at least let me swap shifts. I have never thrown a sickie in my life and I hope not to start now!

Your grandmother used to wear corsets and sometimes enlisted my help to pull the strings tight. For my part I have tried to do with as little underwear as possible, possibly as a counter balance. I bought some new boots today, flat black suede from Russell and Bromleys. They turn over at the top and lace up at the back for a few centimetres. I still miss my purple leather ones I had from same shop about eighteen years ago, I was a fool to have got rid of them.

Congratulations on your shoe purchase, they sound very nice, a bit 80's even. As for the purple ones, maybe you can buy a second-hand pair like that on eBay? They have a lot of 'vintage' things.

I hope your throat is recovering now - as it happens joysilence also had a sore throat a couple of days ago. I used to get them a lot till I went to live in France. Anyway I hope your stay in your homeland is productive and comforting, and that you have a safe journey back to London.

Thanks for your concern Tea-Hen, paracetamol sorted me out! :@]
I am v much looking forward to going home actually, even though I must admit I am getting a lot of work done over here (which needed doing) in the way of archaeology.
However I don't belong here anymore and I am friendless and bored. London's been my home since 1996! =]
Funny that I should think of that as my "homeland" now? Not really.
Enjoy the company of the lovely [livejournal.com profile] joysilence! xx

Good to see the corsets. I imagine a ceramic material is ideal for such an item of clothing, and quite different to the usual satin and lace. I suppose ladies form years ago would have benefitted more from these, say for instance, if they got caught up in a swordfight between 2 muskateers, there would be less chance of them getting poked. It may have been good for the ladies themselves to take part in a sword-fight too without getting incurring any injuries to the torso. But I like the idea of using a ceramic material, as it challenges all of those conventions.
