In which Sam Tom is elegantly alone
Oct. 8th, 2008 10:40 pmOn Monday I returned from a pleasant and varied holiday in Devon with
vieannelyle and
true_loo and in Sheffield with
joysilence.
While in Devon we had a nice outing in Sidmouth. We walked along the beach to Jacob’s Ladder, a tall white ladder that scales the red cliffs, and wandered around Connaught Gardens, enjoying the autumn sun, brisk salt air and sea views. Most of the tourists that flock to Sidmouth in the summer had gone home, with the indigenous population of old people and dogs having reasserted itself.
Later we went into Sidmouth town centre, where I acquired an 80’s St Michael microwave cookery book for 25p. I had to have it as the design was so typical of that most futuristic and artificial of decades, all neon grid backgrounds, angular patterns and sections with titles like ‘Elegantly Alone’. I haven’t made anything in it yet, but it does have a fudge recipe which looks nice.
