I had my post-leaving drinks yesterday night at the Bricklayer's Arms. I didn't know where to go as I'm not that up on pubs, but it was suggested by colleagues. It's tucked away round the back of Tottenham Court Round, and once I actually found it it was quite nice.

Things were meant to kick off at 8. I arrived at 8.15 and no-one was there yet, so I wandered off half-thinking no-one was going to come, and was lured into the new branch of Cinnabon that has opened on Oxford Street opposite the doomed Zavvi store. They only sell cinnamon rolls. If you don't want a cinnamon roll, don't go there. They are absolutely delicious, coming in several sizes and with different sauce and chopped nut toppings, and served warm. They fill the void, both physically and emotionally. You get a little knife and fork to eat them with too, how civilised. They serve milkshakes to go with them but I went for the trusty nice drink of pop that I have with almost everything.

Thus fortified, I wandered back to the pub and by this time people had come. I was pleased with the turnout as although only about 5 colleagues came, they were all people I like and some had mates with them too. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves, one commenting that it was nice to go to a leaving do where you could play darts and the atmosphere wasn't awkward. I was given lots of drinks, along with an Amazon voucher, two types of nail varnish (metallic sky blue by Ruby and Millie, a nice choice from Mauro, and a tasteful dark plum shade selected by Becka), and a pink and blue box of Prestat chocolates to be friends with the one I got for myself at Christmas. There was also a nice card with penguins on chosen by Alex.

They were very insistent that I have to come back to London in the not-too-distant future, which I thought was quite touching. I feel sad to leave them behind but also quite lucky that I got to work with colleagues who I actually like and liked me, as opposed to the mere toleration that can often exist in workplaces.

In other news, I am going to get a laptop. Any recommendations folks? At the moment I am thinking of a Sony Vaio as I will be doing a lot of typing (or so I hope!) and I like their 'floating' keyboard design, with separate holes for each key. I also like the new HP Pavilions with the 'liquid metal' design, but I suppose you shouldn't really just go for looks with these things. I need something not too heavy with good battery life. It will have to be something I can buy from a real-life shop as on-line shops will probably take too long to deliver and I need it before I go to Devon.
