I felt left out not knowing who Fat Bob was, so I googled around...
Fat Bob is a nickname for Robert Smith of the Cure. It was originally given to him by Siouxsie. They apparently were once friends until they had a falling-out. She began calling him "Fat Bob" which had to do with the fact that when The Cure first started, Robert was quite thin, but gained a lot of weight when The Cure hit it big in the late 80's early 90's.
The name caught on with some since, apart from the weight, Robert Smith wore oversized loosely knitted sweaters.
The phrase can also mean the hair-do he made famous, involving a lot of teasing, blow-drying, and AquaNet.
