In which Sam Tom has a fishy surprise
Mar. 6th, 2009 04:28 pmThe boy cat Ronny was very bad yesterday! I was busying myself at the computer upstairs, pretending to have a career or something, when I was interrupted by Mrs Lyle exclaiming, "Ronny's caught a fish!" I didn't see how that could be as I know of no ponds or other expanses of water near our house, but sure enough, the errant feline was knocking a dead goldfish about in the garden.
Despite being neutered, Ronny does sometimes erupt into violence, and in fact has taken a particular dislike to the the RSPB Cuckoo toy, which emits real cuckoo calls when you squeeze it. He pulls it out of the heap of fluffy animals and smacks it around with his paws. He doesn't like Garfield much either.
Mrs Lyle thought the fish had died naturally, perhaps because of the cold weather, then had floated to the surface of someone's garden pond and Ronny just pulled it out. It was all quite sad but that's nature for you I suppose. People should put nets over their fish ponds in my opinion, to avoid such occurrences.
Otherwise, life is fairly quiet here. I am doing the odd bit of translation, eating a fair amount of cake, and also practising driving when possible. I might as well while I am here as the roads are a lot less mental than in London. Yesterday I drove along the road to Cullompton and we saw some lovely lambs in the surrounding fields. Mrs Lyle pointed them out, but then said I mustn't look at them though as they would be too distracting :)
Yesterday Lucy gave me a makeover and also did one on himself. Photos were taken, but I'm not sure if they should be made public as I do look a bit like John Waters in them. He did me a sort of 30s-via-the-80s look with gelled back hair and dark purple lips.
