This weekend has been strange, weather-wise: Saturday was so warm I was able to walk about in short sleeves all day, but today feels truly autumnal and a jacket was required for my outing to Tesco's.
Yesterday I visited the newly revamped Camden Lock and Stables Market. It was better than I thought it would be. Some of the stalls in the new Camden Lock market are nice and wouldn't look out of place at Spitalfields. I particularly liked Radiobot, which has lots of T-shirts and cardigans with geometrical patterns, robots and pictures of Madonna on them. There was also a small stand that sold only cupcakes, and a nice clothes shop specialising in clothes and accessories with kawaii animal designs.
( The world is so full of a number of kings, I'm sure we should all be as happy as things )
I happened to arrive home at the same time as my flatmate and our downstairs neighbour. We got talking and she showed us her two delightful cats, who are ocicats apparently. Pickles is an enchanting little grey cat with aqua eyes and a cuddly disposition. Bob is a large tabby fellow with a strong jaw and a very firm look about his face, but a more retiring personality. The lady said she may call upon us to come and feed them while she is away at the end of the month :D
Also I have a relatively busy social calendar this week so it's just as well I've got some decent things to wear. On Monday night I'm going to Lucky Voice karaoke in Islington with
dream_electric and assorted pop enthusiasts. I'm looking forward to a nice evening out but feel a bit shy about singing in front of others, despite having played synths and done backing vocals live countless times. Not being totally sober will probably help though.
For Thursday, I've been asked to go to Shot By Both Sides, Sarah's bloke's indie night at the Brixton Windmill, but my mate Mauro asked me to come and the A-Grades at the Dublin Castle in Camden instead. It's a fairly obvious choice as the gig is much closer to where I live and I haven't seen my old workmates for some time. Also it's being filmed by the More4 channel apparently. Friday night is Black Plastic, an electro/80s night in East London that I've never got round to going to before. Should be a good opportunity to crack open the Madonna T-shirt, although it's almost certainly not "that sort" of 80s.
The songs for my music project A Terrible Splendour are coming along well. I managed to put together an acceptable rough mix of Forces Darling, our best song in my opinion. Martin and I both like to put it on when we feel a bit down. It cheers me up to know that I managed to achieve something creative even in the face of recent difficult and often unhappy circumstances. Maybe the adverse circumstances helped in a way, by driving me to get lost in the music, just to have something to do other than sit and agonise about how unsatisfactory certain things are.
