You got manatee!

I was subtitling an American reality show called Switched today, when I was pleasantly surprised to see what appears to be a manatee-shaped mailbox outside one of the participant's houses.




Also, one of my colleagues sent me an e-mail just to tell me that it had dawned on him the other day that I look like Andy Warhol. 'What a cool person to look like,' he wrote. I think it is quite cool, especially since Andy Warhol was good mates with Nick Rhodes and had a thin face (I'm often concerned about having a fat face). He attached this picture:

That's rather a coincidence as I was flicking through last Friday's ES magazine today and it had a feature on Warhol. There was a picture of him sitting beside Nick Rhodes and part of the feature was about how chummy they were. I'll bring it home this evening if you haven't seen it already.

I've just had another gander over the article. It's all about Andy's 'English Muffins', who were the troubled yet glamorous English people in aristocracy or popular culture, who he took on to be his chums. The article centres around Edie Sedgewick (who Sienna Miller is about to play in her new film) and wanders off into English star territory. There's a nice pic of Nick and Andy, they look like good pals. You'll see it soon enough anyway!

That's a great manatee! How did you get the image, can you freeze frames of programmes at work and save them as JPEGs or something?

I simply chose full screen view in Windows Media Player, then hit the Print Screen button on the keyboard. Then I went into Word and chose Paste. It's a good way of copying anything on your screen. Then I cut out the bit of the picture I wanted and pasted it into Paint, and saved it as a JPEG.

Aah I see! By the way, have you tried the Video Google search engine? The other day we found several vids of Gary Numan with it, including a fab performance of "Are Friends Electric?" on the Old Grey Whistle Test.

I understood about screen prints as I have done many and often, but I don't get the last sentence - @Cut out the .....JPEG@. Perhaps you'll show me soon.

Yes, by cut I mean crop the image. You can do that in Word, you know, if you paste an image into a Word document. I can show you if you like.

did you go to elektrofest? we did, the sounds was a bit rubbish for the modern alas, but it was pretty good anyway x

No, I didn't go to Elektrofest this year, although I went last year. Last year's was a bit of a debacle as they had to move venues from Koko to Slimelight, and they cancelled half the bands they had booked. I didn't think I'd enjoy any of the bands this year except for the Modern, so I didn't bother.
